As one of the NBA’s most exciting young stars, nobody imagined that Ja Morant was willing to risk it all. But when he flashed his gun on Instagram Live, that’s exactly what he did, and now he’s having to deal with the fallout.

While Ja got off with a light sentence given the circumstances, the impact of the ordeal (and the many rumors of his toxic behavior off the court)) was deep and far-reaching for the 2x All-Star.

“It’s a lot, man,” Morant said, via ESPN. “A lot of people don’t know what’s going on — not in my shoes right now with everything that’s been going on as of late. Obviously, I take responsibility for decisions I’ve made that pretty much hurt me to the core. Like I said, it not only affected me, but it affected everyone around me — my family, this organization, my teammates — and caused me not to be out there on the floor. Which, one thing I love to do the most is play basketball. So it’s a lot, but like I said before, it’s an ongoing process with everything I’ve been doing the past two weeks, and I’m going to continue to do that to get through everything I need to be healthy.”

Whatever Ja was doing behind the scenes, it seems like somebody really spoke to him about changing his behavior. Besides going to a counseling center in Florida, Morant has been open and honest about his past and has come out to publicly apologize twice for his mistakes.

The question is, can he avoid any further incidents in the future?

Morant Got The Help He Needed

This experience has changed Morant for the better, and (according to his own testimony) it is helping him learn how to better deal with stress and anger.

“Obviously, I’ve made mistakes in the past that cause a lot of negative attention — not only to me, but my family as well, my team, the organization — and I’m completely sorry for that,” said Morant. “So my job now is, like I said, to be more responsible, more smarter, and don’t cause any of that no more.”

All we can do now is give Ja another chance and hope for the best. Right now, he’s checking all of the boxes as he ramps up to a return, but it will be some time before the fans really trust him again.
