  • James Harden continues his war against 76ers GM
  • Former MVP shows off disrespectful sign at wild party in the club
  • Future is uncertain for 76ers amid ugly trade situation

While the Damian Lillard situation may finally be over, things are just getting started between James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers. After requesting a trade to the Clippers this offseason, Harden made it known that he wants to cut all ties with the 76ers and he’s got no plans to suit up for them at any point this season.

While some fans were hoping things would blow over by now, Harden hasn’t yet backed down from his position. In fact, based on his latest off-season activities, it appears that he’s only doubling down on his campaign against Morey and the Sixers.

In the video (included above), you can see Harden partying hard in a nightclub, which has become somewhat of a tradition for the former MVP. What really caught people’s eyes, however, was the glowing sign that read “Daryl Morey is a liar” for everyone to see. Clearly, Harden feels justified in waging this war with the Sixers GM, but antics like these may be causing more harm than good at this point.

Unfortunately for Harden, no trade has materialized and it’s looking more and more like he’ll be on Philly’s roster by the start of the season. While his desire to become a Clipper has been well documented, the franchise hasn’t been willing to offer a meaningful package in exchange for the 10x All-Star. Now, Harden is essentially stuck playing a waiting game with Daryl Morey and it’s turning ugly… but holding out this upcoming season could have some big implications for Harden and his NBA future.

Is Daryl Morey A Liar?

In the eyes of Harden, Morey demonstrated the ultimate disrespect during trade negotiation this summer. After taking a pay cut last season, James was expecting to see a massive contract extension when he opted out of his deal, which he would have signed to secure his long-term future. Instead, according to Harden, he didn’t get the pay raise that Morey promised him and when trade talks stalled this summer, it was enough to essentially cut ties with the organization.

“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” said Harden in August. “Let me say that again. Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.” It remains to be seen if reconciliation is possible between Harden and Morey, but James is running out of options as the new season approaches and he will have to decide whether to suit up and play this season out or skip the games entirely and risk his NBA future.

What’s Next For Harden?

While the 76ers would gladly welcome Harden back to the team, he has no plans to repair the situation. Despite attempts to intervene from Joel Embiid and others within the organization, James remains committed to forcing his way out, and he still has his sights on the Clippers.

As a free agent in 2024, it might not be until next summer that Harden finally gets his wish. After putting up 21 points, 10.7 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game last season, the Beard showed that he can still play at a star level but he’s not the same guy who was in the MVP running for three years straight. In reality, the best course of action for Harden is probably staying put and making amends with 76ers management but he’s not one to give up easily and his tactics have worked to great efficiency in the past. If the 76ers don’t tread carefully, they could fall victim to Harden’s attempts to toxify the entire franchise just like he did in Brooklyn and Houston on his way out.
