The Philadelphia 76ers are going to be under immense pressure next season, as the franchise looks to make the Conference Finals for the first time in over two decades. Joel Embiid finally won the regular season MVP he craved, but now it’s time for postseason success.
Jay Williams and Stephen A. Smith were discussing who is more likely to request a trade between Joel and Luka Doncic. While Smith chose Luka, Williams chose Embiid purely because of the organizational mistakes that have restricted the 76ers from having success in this era.
“I do believe what I’ve seen Philly do to Joel Embiid has been organizational malpractice. We can go through the laundry list… If you’re talking about surrounding Joel Embiid with the right pieces, leadership-wise… you need a real leader around him.”

Williams gave some great examples of everything that the 76ers have gotten wrong, starting with trading Mikal Bridges on draft night for Zhaire Smith, picking Tobias Harris over Jimmy Butler, and even drafting Markelle Fultz over Jayson Tatum.
There has been misstep after misstep in Philly, so Embiid may soon look to move to a situation where he can win, similar to what Damian Lillard is doing right now.
Who’s To Blame In Philadelphia?
Even though it seems easy to blame the front office for all their genuine mistakes in the last 9 years, Embiid isn’t without fault. He averaged a disappointing 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks, on 42.1% shooting as a center in their second-round loss at the hand of the Boston Celtics this season. He has had too many poor performances in playoff elimination games to say that it’s everyone’s fault but his.
The James Harden trade decision will make a massive difference in Embiid’s future with the franchise. Some reckon he’ll ask out if the return isn’t strong enough, which would virtually signal the end of ‘the Process’ in Philly, as Daryl Morey will have to either convince Embiid to stay or rebuild the franchise into finding another generational talent.
