The Houston Rockets finished the 2022-23 NBA season as the 14th seed in the Western Conference. They had a 22-60 record, tied for worst in the conference with the San Antonio Spurs.
Following a poor season, the Rockets fired Stephen Silas and hired ex-Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka to fill the opening. Bobby Krivitsky of Sports Illustrated wrote an article on how this could aid the Rockets in signing Jaylen Brown in the future.
“And while the Celtics must be happy about Udoka going to a Western Conference team, there is the possibility he tries to recruit Jaylen Brown to the Rockets. The two built a strong relationship, and it’s a prospect worth monitoring.”
That’s not all. Krivitsky also believes that Udoka may try to bring a few of his coaching staff members from his Celtics days to the Rockets.
“Beyond Brown, as detailed when the Celtics removed the interim tag from Joe Mazzulla, Udoka brought most of the current coaching staff to Boston. Many of the team’s assistant coaches share Oregon roots with him, and it’ll be interesting to see if and how many join Udoka in Houston.”
The Rockets have an exciting core of Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., and Alperen Sengun. Adding a player of Jaylen Brown’s caliber to that core could produce fruitful results for the struggling Rockets.
The Houston Rockets Are Interested In Signing Jaylen Brown
Over the last few months, there have been many rumors about Jaylen Brown potentially leaving the Boston Celtics after this season.
Evidently, many teams have already started to enquire about Brown. A couple of weeks ago, the Houston Rockets also showed interest in signing the 26-year-old.
Ime Udoka’s hiring and the Rockets’ interest in Brown perfectly line up. Keeping that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the All-Star guard ended up joining the Rockets.
Brown averaged a solid 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.5 APG this season. He is expected to receive All-NBA honors for his numbers.
