The Boston Celtics have a lot to be excited about. They’ve got a great front office, a quality coach, and two young pieces that should secure their future in the East.
But it’s clear that things will get better before they get worse in Boston.
With the team struggling, the mood around the organization has been pretty sour, and those emotions only heightened following their recent loss to Atlanta.
“We’re not where we want to be. The more we can play with pace, guys will get easier looks. We’ll knock down some shots.”
Of course, Tatum being blunt about his team is far from the worse thing to happen to the Celtics this year.
Just earlier this month, Marcus Smart made headlines for making some rather interesting comments about his teammates:
“Every team knows we’re trying to go to Jayson and Jaylen,” said Marcus Smart. “Every team is programmed and studied to stop Jayson and Jaylen. I think everybody’s scouting report is to make those guys pass the ball. They don’t want to pass the ball. That’s something that they’re going to learn. They’re still learning.
We’re proud of the progress they’re making, but they’re going to have to make another step and find ways to not only create for themselves but create for others on this team to open up the court for them later down in the game where they’re always going to have to take those tough shots or take tough matchups when they do get the 1-on-1 or they bring the trap. It’s something we’ve been asking them to do and they’re learning. We just gotta continue to help those guys do that… There’s only so much I can do when the ball isn’t in my hands and I’m standing in the corner.”
The Celtics have a bright future ahead of them, that much is clear.
But to unlock their true potential, they’re going to have to work through a number of kinks, and it’s not going to be easy.
The frustration has already manifested in several different ways.
