Over the years, Staples Center has become rather iconic in the NBA community. As home to two of the league’s most prestigious and high-market teams, Staples is probably one of the more well-known arenas.

So it was announced that Staples Center would be renamed into Crypto.com arena, it was met with a mixed reception by the fans.

Staples Center – the iconic home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers among others since 1999 – will have a new name beginning Dec. 25:Crypto.com Arena. It’s believed to be the largest U.S. venue naming rights deal to date.

In the end, people will eventually get used to the new name, but Staples Center does have a long history associated with its name, and it’s going to be a tough transition to make.

For Vanessa Bryant, she got the pleasure of watching her husband make history in Staples, winning five titles during his tenure with the Purple and Gold.

It sounds silly to think that changing the name of an arena could hit people so hard, but after so many years of excellence and greatness, it will not be an easy adjustment for everyone.

“It’ll be weird,” said Paul George. “I grew up with this being Staples and Staples being the place to play and the place to be. It’ll definitely be weird. It’s the same location but it’s kind of like stripping the history here by calling something else and from there going forward it’s like I guess a new history to be written but it’ll be weird, for sure. Good thing we [Clippers] won’t be here too long. We’ll be at our own place so it is what it is I guess.”

Needless to say, Los Angeles has a special connection with Staples Center. It has been the name of so many great moments in the past.

And while the name might be different, nothing will take away all the great things Kobe, and all the other greats did during their time.
