The Boston Celtics made a big move when they decided to trade Marcus Smart, a key piece of the team for many years, to facilitate the three-team deal that landed Kristaps Porzingis in Boston.
This was a big surprise for a lot of people, including Jayson Tatum, the best player on the team. After learning the news, the superstar took to Instagram to share a lovely message for Smart.
“My dawg Forever grateful for you and how you pushed me and helped me along this journey,” he wrote.
“Never change keep being you, one of a kind can never be replaced! My brotha for life. We gone link back up one day and get us one no doubt about that! Until then, much love Brodie!”

This move took everybody off guard, and Tatum wasn’t an exception. The Celtics are trying to improve their roster after another disappointing finish to their season. The Porzingis trade is a big way to start a new chapter, but not many people agreed that they did it at the expense of Smart.
During his nine-season run with the C’s, Smart posted 10.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 581 games. Smart was the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year award winner. He’s set to play for a new team in need of his veteran presence.
Marcus Smart Was Shocked After Getting Traded To Memphis
Again, Smart was a key piece for the Celtics, and parting ways with him didn’t sound very likely until a couple of days ago. This move shocked everybody, including the player.
Following the collapse of the first trade involving Malcolm Brogdon and Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics worked on a new deal and Smart was sacrificed.
The Porzingis move hasn’t been that convincing, but the player is confident that he can do good things in Boston.
As for Smart, he’s ready to team up with another incredible defender like Jaren Jackson Jr., ready to guide the Grizzlies to compete for championships, as he did with the Celtics.
