During a chat with Celtics legend Brian Scalabrine, 26-year-old Jayson Tatum went viral for his dig at the Miami Heat. In a hilarious jab, Tatum brushed off the Heat as an “easy” opponent that is hardly a challenge at all.

Scalabrine: “You guys have been on a lot of hard-fought trips to Miami, was this one a little sweeter?”

Tatum: “They’re always easy.”

The championship festivities are in full swing for the Celtics and former Duke prospect Jayson Tatum is making sure to take it all in. While he was not the Finals MVP for this run, his status as the best player on a championship team has elevated him to another level of stardom and he’s speaking like a man with nothing left to prove.

There is no question that Tatum, 26, is one of the best players in the world. With averages of 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game on 47.1% shooting this season, he’s been the top player on the league’s best team for a while now. fresh off winning his first championship, it’s not surprising that his confidence is at an all-time high.

But as many fans pointed out in the comments, Tatum doesn’t have a great track record against the Heat. He’s lost multiple playoff series to Jimmy Butler, including just last season when they were defeated in the East Finals after dropping the first three games. In his career, Jayson is 13-12 against the Heat in the postseason and they’ve been a consistent thorn in his side for years.

In the 2023-24 campaign, however, everything changed for the Celtics. With a new and improved roster (including Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis), the team couldn’t be stopped in the regular season and went 64-18 through the first 82 games.

The playoffs were even more impressive for the Celtics. In four rounds, Tatum and Brown led their team to a 16-3 record including a series win in the Finals over Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

Now, more than ever, the Celtics are living without fear and Tatum is free to talk all the trash he wants. With most of the cast set to return next season, this campaign doesn’t seem like a fluke by any stretch. In fact, this team could become a borderline dynasty given how far ahead they are compared to the rest of the league.

As for the Heat, many expect them to stay competitive for a while longer but their defeat this year has raised some serious questions about the value of keeping this group together. Butler, who turned 34 in September, is on the decline and there are rumblings that he could be on the trade block.

Whatever happens to the Heat, the East runs through Boston right now and everyone knows it. As a young and complete team that has just gained valuable championship experience, the Celtics are more powerful now than ever before and Tatum already knows that they can beat any team that stands in their way.
