The 2022-23 NBA MVP frontrunner Joel Embiid put on a defensive clinic in Game 2 vs. the Brooklyn Nets.

Embiid recorded 20 points, 19 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in the 96-84 win. In the postgame conference, Embiid was shocked to learn that he only had 3 blocks to his name. The 29-year-old used it as an opportunity to troll the Memphis Grizzlies as well.

“It’s the playoffs. Every possession matters. And I had, what, three blocks? Only three blocks? I probably need the Memphis scorekeeper. What was it, Denver, Memphis, whatever? I thought I had more. That’s the level that I have to get to, and I’m gonna do it every game.”

Joel Embiid stuffed the box score against the Nets, but he was obviously hungry for more. To achieve that, Embiid joked about needing the Memphis Grizzlies’ scorekeeper.

Yes, it was a reference to when one of the Grizzlies’ scorekeepers was accused of posting fraudulent stats for Jaren Jackson Jr. Well, considering the 76ers do not have someone who can do the same for Embiid, he will have to get more stats by playing even better.

Joel Embiid Believes He Is The Best Player In The NBA

The Philadelphia 76ers are the overwhelming favorites to win the opening-round series against the Brooklyn Nets. Considering the team already has a 2-0 lead, they are on the path of completing a sweep over the Nets.

The biggest reason behind Philly’s success is the phenomenal performance of Joel Embiid. Right before the start of the postseason, Embiid even hailed himself as the best player in the NBA.

So far in the playoffs, Embiid has backed up his statement of being the best player in the world right now. But he will truly earn that title if he leads the 76ers, at least, to the NBA Finals. Otherwise, many fans will roast Embiid for making such a huge claim.
