Kawhi Leonard had a great 25-point performance last night as the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Los Angeles Lakers in a crucial matchup for their playoff hopes.
This was Russell Westbrook’s first game against the Lakers since being traded, and he had a solid game. Kawhi Leonard praised the former MVP after the game for his energy and point guard play.
“Every night he’s coming out with energy. No matter what game it is. He’s helping us be a better team, be a faster team, and be more organized with him having the ball and putting us in our spots.”
The Lakers ended up losing by 7 points in what became their 11th consecutive loss to the Clippers. It has also dropped them to the 7th seed, a game behind both the Clippers and Warriors.
What Seed Should The Lakers Play For?
With the Lakers already clinching a spot in the play-in tournament, the team may be more strategic about their push now. This loss has almost virtually removed them from the running for the fifth seed, which means they won’t be facing the Phoenix Suns in the first round. A win tonight would have made that an exceedingly likely possibility.
The Lakers need to win out and hope the Warriors lose one of two games to allow them to take their spot as the sixth seed to face the Sacramento Kings in the first round. That’s a more favorable matchup than the Suns but it is dependent on the Warriors losing another game.
Getting into the playoffs as a top-6 seed should remain the priority, so the Lakers need to give it their all in the remaining games against the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz.
