Kevin Durant has solidified his legacy with Team USA by becoming the all-time leading scorer (483) and rebounder (126) for the men’s national basketball team. Durant already held the title of the men’s leading scorer. In a recent game against Puerto Rico, he further cemented his place in history by surpassing Carmelo Anthony’s record of 125 rebounds.

Durant finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists on 4-8 shooting from the field and 3-7 from three-point range, contributing significantly to Team USA’s dominant 104-83 victory.

Durant’s milestone is a testament to his consistent excellence and impact on the international stage. He has been a vital part of Team USA for over a decade, competing in his fourth Olympics and already possessing three gold medals. His performance in these games highlights his versatility and ability to contribute across various facets of the game.

The only other player in the history of USA Basketball to achieve similar accolades is Lisa Leslie, who scored 488 points in 32 games over four Olympics, winning gold each time. Durant is expected to surpass Leslie’s record in the upcoming knockout stages, further underscoring his scoring prowess.

Durant’s journey in the 2024 Olympics has been impressive. In the first game against Serbia, he scored 23 points and grabbed 2 rebounds while shooting a phenomenal 8/9 from the field and 5/5 from three-point range in just 17 minutes. His consistency continued against Puerto Rico, as he maintained his high level of play, making history by moving ahead of Sergei Belov on the all-time Olympic scoring list.

Durant’s remarkable performance comes after an outstanding NBA season with the Phoenix Suns. Despite being in his 16th season, Durant averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 52.3% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range in 75 games. His ability to maintain such high standards at both the NBA and international levels speaks volumes about his skill, dedication, and athleticism.

Team USA finished the group stages as the number 1 seed, showcasing their dominance and cohesion throughout the preliminary rounds. They are now set to face Brazil in the quarterfinals, a matchup that promises to be challenging yet exciting.

As Team USA progresses through the Olympics, Durant’s leadership and experience will be crucial. His achievements not only highlight his individual greatness but also inspire his teammates to strive for excellence. With Kevin Durant at the helm, Team USA’s quest for another gold medal looks promising, and his historic milestones will remain a significant part of his illustrious career.
