If you’re looking for an example of the ultimate competitor, you need to look no further than Kobe Bryant. During his 20-year stint with the Lakers, Bryant embodied the values of hard work and dedication — and by the time he retired in 2016, he was widely recognized as one of the All-Time greats.

Even though Bryant is no longer around to offer his brilliant insight to the world today, his legacy continues to live on through the moments he shared with others.

This week, another one of those moments was made known during Charles Barkley’s debut appearance on ‘All the Smoke’ podcast. There, he went into detail about the relationship between the media and players and touched on one story that featured him and Kobe Bryant after a rough moment with the Lakers.

“Remember that game when he wouldn’t shoot? We had that game that night and Kobe starts texting me calling me mother f**ker, a**hole, you son of a b**ch… he’s texting me 25 times, every name in the book. I’m texting him back, ‘yo man pick up the phone and come call me. ‘No, f**k you, f** you mother f**ker, that’s bulls**t what you said. This goes on for 2-3 hours. I said, ‘yo man I’m tired I’m going to bed.’ ‘f**k you motherf**er go to bed!'”

During the game, Kobe was infamously and unusually passive, and the Lakers got rolled because Bryant was trying to prove how much help he didn’t have. Barkley exposed Bryant for this in front of the world, and it seems Kobe wasn’t a fan of how he was portrayed.

When the two met up again a month later, Kobe apologized, and they hugged it out like true professionals, but Chuck never forgot his reaction that day.

Kobe Bryant Was The Ultimate Competitor

There are countless stories about Kobe’s unbridled love and passion for the game, and the impact he left on the game itself will never truly wash away.

Besides his achievements as an NBA MVP and 5x champion, Bryant was an inspiration to many fans and playoffs across the world.

When anyone called out his game, he always proved them wrong with dominant play on the court. In the case of Charles Barkley, Kobe clearly had no problem letting him hear exactly what he was thinking.
