Point guard Kyrie Irving is one of the best players in the league when on the court, and there is no doubt that he is an extremely talented point guard. That is why the Dallas Mavericks traded for him ahead of the 2023 trade deadline.

This summer, there was a lot of speculation about where Kyrie Irving would go in free agency. However, it seems as though he is staying put. Recently, Shams Charania revealed that he has agreed on a three-year, $126 million deal to stay with the Dallas Mavericks. The deal notably has a player option for the third season.

“Free agent Kyrie Irving has agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract to return to the Dallas Mavericks, with a player option in third season, The Athletic and Stadium learned.”

There is no doubt that this is a good move for the Dallas Mavericks. They avoided losing Kyrie Irving for nothing and can keep him for at least two years as Luka Doncic’s co-star. For Irving, he got some guaranteed money, with a chance to sign an even longer deal in two years by declining his player option.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Kyrie Irving put up 27.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.3 APG while shooting 37.9% from 3PT range. He had a stellar season, and we’ll see how the Mavericks look after another year of him and Luka Doncic together.
