Kyrie Irving seems to be a pleased man after he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. So much so that he took to Instagram to share his first post themed around freedom after he exited the Brooklyn Nets.
The 30-year-old was one of the blockbuster trades ahead of the deadline. He was traded to Dallas for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round, and multiple second-round picks.
And he had a good first outing with the team propping up 24 points coupled with 4 rebounds and 5 assists in the Mavericks’ 110-104 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
He later took to Instagram to share a series of images that defined what he called “Freedom of Expression”.
Not one to shy away from being totally blunt, Irving’s post perhaps implies that he now has the freedom that he perhaps didn’t during his time with the Nets.
Kyrie Irving Wanted To Leave The Brooklyn Nets After ‘Year 1’
Irving never imagined having a long run with the Nets, and he was candid about the thought when he spoke to the media after the Mavericks’ win earlier this week.
He explained that he did his best to acclimatize to the situation, but there were enough murky events that went down and that didn’t sit right with the guard.
“This was in the works like after Year 1. I was unsure about whether I wanted to be in Brooklyn long-term again because of things that were happening behind the scenes. I just did my best to put my head down and work as hard as I could. There were some unfortunate circumstances that came up there that were out of my control. Whether it be the mandate with the vaccine or missing games being suspended…or just little things that I think just put wrenches in our journey.
Despite his own off-the-floor drama, Irving has proved to be a force on the court this season averaging 27.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists.
Now, with his newfound freedom, chances are Irving will maybe unlock a better version of himself as the Mavericks look to make the elusive championship their own this year.
