Kyrie Irving is one of the more talked-about athletes in the NBA. It’s not just his game that gets people reacting, but also the topics he brings up off the court and the way he carries himself.

Kyrie is a big proponent for many minorities and is extremely proud of his Indigenous and Native American heritage. And he recently posted an Instagram story showing how much land they have lost from 1492 to 1977.

The history of the United States of America is a dark one when discussing the situation of the indigenous tribes that are native to the land. Settlers from Europe committed many horrific atrocities and took a lot of lands away from the native people over the centuries, which has led to a drastic decrease in their population as well. According to some studies, they have lost over 98% of their historical lands

Kyrie Irving feels strongly about many social issues and has strong connections to the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, the Lakota, a tribe his mother was born into. So he often works to spread awareness about the things his ancestors dealt with and any issues that their descendants still deal with today. As is his habit, he also posted some more social ideas on his story along with this photo.

Kyrie Irving Shared A Scene Of Neo From The Matrix Alongside Other Messages

The basketball world is waiting with bated breath to find out if Kyrie Irving will re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks or not, although that doesn’t seem to be a big priority on Kyrie’s mind at the minute. The mercurial guard is spending time sharing his ideas about society, and he posted a scene from the legendary film, The Matrix, when Neo finds out about the system.

In keeping with his connection to the Lakota, he also shared a blessing that is commonly used within their culture.

Kyrie Irving has spent a lot of time searching for his roots and reconnecting with them. And while his research has at times led him to controversy, he supports the idea that everyone should look for the truth by themselves and learn about their history.

The offseason is a time that those associated with the NBA can explore some of these things about themselves and life. Kyrie Irving may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but his dedication to spreading what he believes in is commendable by itself. How fans feel about him next season largely depends on what decisions he makes this summer.
