LeBron James’ Lakers Are The First Western Conference Team To Beat Steve Kerr And The Warriors In A 7-Game Series

LeBron James has led the Lakers to beating the Warriors in a 7-game series outside of the NBA Finals, which is the first time it's happened under Steve Kerr's coaching.

The Golden State Warriors have dominated the NBA and the Western Conference more than anything else during this past decade. Led by Stephen Curry, who has been flanked by Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, they haven’t lost a series outside the NBA Finals since 2014.

With 30 points and a win in Game 6, LeBron James has broken a 19-0 run the Warriors were on for the better part of a decade. Take a quick look at who they beat from 2014 until 2023. They didn’t lose a series in the Western Conference for almost 9 years.

Since Steve Kerr took a job in May 2014, check the Warriors’ road in the Western Conference:

Steve Kerr Lost Only Three Playoff Series With The Warriors Since 2014

Steve Kerr took over the Warriors and took them to the next level almost immediately. The relationship started with a bang, with Kerr winning a championship in his first season as Head Coach. Since 2014, Kerr has lost only three series in the playoffs, and the two before this recent loss were both in the NBA Finals.

2016: Lost against the Cleveland Cavaliers

2019: Lost against the Toronto Raptors

2023: Lost against the Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James has been responsible directly for two of those losses. His 2016 Finals comeback against the Warriors is genuinely one of the greatest moments in NBA history. And now he’s done it again despite being 38 years old, a truly remarkable man. For the Warriors, he is their worst nightmare, although their lives have been pretty successful for a while now.
