LeBron James’ perplexing Game 2 moves were one of the factors behind the Los Angeles Lakers 108-103 loss against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday.

To put things in perspective, James missed a layup in the second quarter after hitting the front of the rim, and that resulted in a turnover. The same stretch also saw him have a breakaway dunk opportunity that was botched after he fumbled on his way to the rim. The ball went out of bounds, resulting in a Nuggets’ possession.

“Obviously it sucks that ball squirted out of my hand like that, maybe it hit my knee or whatever,” James told reporters after the loss. “Unforced turnover by myself. Horrible, especially on the road.”

Quite simply, it would be unfair to say the loss was predominantly due to James’ missed dunk and layup chances, but he was perfect in the other aspects of the game.

For instance, his defense against Nikola Jokic was one of the major talking points in Game 2. James had a bad day in terms of shooting with 9-of-19 from the field and going 0-from-6 from three-point land. He ended up with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists.

LeBron James Confirms He Will Play Game 3 Despite Tweaking His Ankle

LeBron James was not perturbed about his tweaked ankle in Game 2 and confirmed that he would be playing the next game.

“I’ll be ready on Sunday. I just stepped on the foot of AG. Nothing is keeping me from playing.” The injury surely had its impact, as James could be seen visibly gassed at certain points of the game soon after.

That said, James has played through worse, and the Lakers have come way too far to bow out without putting up a fight. This “Miracle Lakers” unit has done more than what was expected of them, but James’ tone suggests that they are far from done.

The Lakers now have a chance to cut the deficit to one on Sunday, and it remains to be seen if the seasoned veteran can hold up despite his injury.
