The Outback Steakhouse in Akron, Ohio, has officially closed after 30 years of operation. Both LeBron James and his wife, Savannah, are saddened by the news, as it was the location of their very first date.

As for why it is closing, Bloomin’ Brands, the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, has closed 41 of its eateries across the U.S. Their latest review identified 41 underperforming locations and it just so happened that this was one of them. It is one of two in Ohio to be shut down, with the other located in Findlay.
You can understand LeBron and Savannah being disappointed over the news. This was where it all began for the two of them and the place would mean a lot as a result. The couple first crossed paths when she was a 16-year-old sophomore at Buchtel and he was a 17-year-old junior at St. Vincent-St. Mary.
LeBron asked a mutual friend for her number, but Savannah refused to give her number and took James’ instead. One fine day she remembered she had this person’s number and contacted him. She went to watch one of his basketball games after which they went to a local Applebee’s with a group of friends.
At some point after that, just the two of them went on a one-on-one date at Outback Steakhouse. LeBron and Savannah haven’t looked back since that fateful night. They went from high school sweethearts to husband and wife in 2013. They also have three kids together, Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri.
LeBron James Spoke On What It Would Mean To Score 40K Points
When LeBron went on that first date with Savannah, he couldn’t have imagined that they would go on to have such a special life together. Another thing he couldn’t have thought of at the time was that he would one day be on the cusp of scoring 40,000 points in the NBA. Well, he is only nine points away now, and LeBron spoke on what it would mean to reach 40k career points.
“I can’t say no. Of course, no one has ever done it. For me to be in this position at this point of time in my career, I think it’s pretty cool. Does it sit at the top of things I’ve done in my career? No. Does it mean something? Of course. Absolutely. Why wouldn’t it? To be able to accomplish things among the greatest players in the league has been a dream of mine. To hit feats and milestones throughout my career, they all mean something to me. Obviously, there’s a pecking order with which ones come higher, but I would be lying to you if I said it means nothing.”
LeBron, who is averaging 25.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game this season, is all set to hit that mark when the Los Angeles Lakers face off against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. With how well the 39-year-old continues to play, you wonder just how many points he will have by the time he retires.
For the longest time, it was thought that no one would ever surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s new all-time leading scorer. James did it in 2023, and I don’t see anyone in my lifetime getting past whatever mark he ends up setting.
