LeBron James might be one of the greatest NBA superstars to ever grace the court, but there’s one thing he loves like most Americans. That is football. James has been known as a Dallas Cowboys fan for years but recently said that he now supports his hometown Cleveland Browns.

“I’m a Browns fan now. It’s my hometown, it’s been disgusting every year, but we have hope every year.”

LeBron being an NFL superfan is well-documented, with his recent proficiency at predicting games coming to the limelight., Given the ideological differences between the Cowboys and LeBron, it’s not surprising to see the outspoken activist disassociate with the Cowboys and their owner Jerry Jones.

LeBron James Explained Why He Doesn’t Support The Cowboys Anymore

LeBron worse his Cowboys fandom on his sleeve, growing up during some of the best years of the franchise. However, their reaction to athletes kneeling during the national anthem as a form of a silent and peaceful protest prompted James to switch allegiances back to his hometown Browns.

“Nah man, I had to sit put on the Cowboys man. It just a lot of things that were going on when guys were kneeling, guys were talking about freedom of speech and doing it in a very peaceful manner. A lot of the people in the front office and in the organization were like, ‘If you do that around here, you won’t play for this franchise again.’ I just didn’t think that was appropriate. I still love the players on the team, I love CeeDee Lamb, our boy Zeke, Buckeye, I still mess with him. I love Micah Parsons, he’s a dog. I had to turn it in to him even with all the love I have. I am all in on the Browns.”

LeBron also lambasted Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones last season after pictures of Jones in anti-Black rallies in his youth came out.

“I was wondering why I haven’t gotten a question from you guys about the Jerry Jones photo. But when the Kyrie [Irving] thing was going on, you guys were quick to ask us questions about that… But it seems like to me that the whole Jerry Jones situation, photo — and I know it was years and years ago and we all make mistakes, I get it — but it seems like it’s just been buried under, like, ‘Oh, it happened. OK, we just move on.'”

His NFL fandom has been impacted by the actions of the team owner, but it’s great to see James take a stand and not support teams that don’t match his values and ideals.

LeBron James Nearly Joined The NFL During The 2011 Lockout

During the 2011 NBA lockout which made it seem like we may not get an NBA season, LeBron considered plying his trade in the NFL. One of the teams that offered him a contract was the Dallas Cowboys.

“That’s true. Jerry Jones offered me a contract, also Pete Carroll did as well in Seattle, during our lockout time. It definitely got my blood flowing again, it got my mind racing again thinking about the game of football, being out there on Sunday. You know, we were able to get a deal done in the NBA, and I was back on the court in no time. But I definitely thought about it. I still got the jersey too, that Jerry and Pete Carroll sent me from 2011.”

Thankfully, the NBA season resumed and we never lost James to the NFL. Although, it is a wild timeline to imagine James as one of the best wide receivers in NFL history instead of being one of the greatest ever to get on the NBA floor.
