LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of work to do this offseason. They are now in search of a new head coach following the departure of Frank Vogel after three years with the squad.

Even before the end of the season and Vogel’s firing, a lot of people had candidates to take over at Crypto.com Arena, with one earning more popularity around Lakers Nation. This offseason will be a big one for the Lakers, and they need to make the right moves to bounce back next season.

Sam Amick of The Athletic reports that a former coach could make his return to the league to try to lead the Purple and Gold to the promised land. Amick says that LeBron James would welcome Mark Jackson to the Lakers, but that’s not a real possibility for the team.

If James truly had the deciding vote, Ty Lue would have been hired as head coach in the summer of 2019 rather than Vogel. Ditto for Jason Kidd, who was Vogel’s lead assistant with the Lakers the past two seasons before heading to Dallas last summer.

And here’s a tidbit to monitor as the Lakers conduct their latest coaching search: Sources say James would be very enthused by the prospect of Mark Jackson landing the job. But as history tells us, that doesn’t mean it will actually happen.

Shannon Sharpe also dropped this idea recently, reminding people that Jackson was the one that prepared Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green before Steve Kerr took over and won his first NBA championship as a coach.

Jackson could be good for the Lakers, but more candidates will try to persuade the front office to sign them. Nick Nurse appears to be atop of their wishlist, but that’s a really long shot. We have to wait and see how this situation plays out and if Jackson finds his way to California again.
