LeBron James keeps defying age consistently and performing at an incredibly high level. Even though he’s about to turn 39, he’s still the face of the NBA. The league needs to start picking successors for James. Rapper Lil Wayne believes that Ja Morant is going to be the next face of the NBA because of his distinct on-court style.

“To me, the obvious answer is Ja. The NBA is entertainment. What I mean by that is that there used to be Michael Jordan, and he was like God. You can watch Atlanta Hawk games just to see what Dominique, if he gonna get him one off. I’m watching Portland games to see if Clyde gonna get him one. Ja’s teams are actually competitive when he’s there and doing his thing.”

Unfortunately, Morant will have to shed a lot of demons to be in a position where he’s marketed as the face of the league. What happens on the court is paramount and Morant will need to play at an MVP-caliber to even have a chance of rehabilitating his image. Hopefully, he can do that, especially after leading the Grizzlies to back-to-back wins since returning.

James has a spotless record off the court, often being lauded for being the perfect example of the face of the league. There are no obvious successors that are in line to follow him, but the candidates are aplenty.

Tee Morant Says Ja Isn’t Interested In Being The Face Of The NBA

Tee Morant recently came out and said that Ja Morant doesn’t view himself as someone who’s in line to be the ‘Face of the NBA’. Instead, Morant’s focus will be to win as many championships as possible.

“My son’s job is to try to win championships for the Memphis Grizzlies. Face of the league, that comes from other people’s opinions. Second, there have been a lot of faces of the league that have done way worse things than my son. So why is my son under the guillotine again? You cannot do this to me, you cannot double-standard me and talk about the face of the league. my son’s job is to help Memphis win as many games as he can, that’s it.”

That is an admirable outlook to have. Ultimately, if you keep winning championships, you become one of the faces of the league. Even though we’ve been in the LeBron James era, Stephen Curry also clearly serves as another face of the NBA. He’ll likely inherit the mantle after James retires, so the NBA will have some time to figure out who comes after that void is left.

Jayson Tatum looks like a prime candidate but needs to make it through the championship barrier and win a title before he can enter these conversations. The international competition in the league is far too stiff nowadays for one player to call themselves the face. It’ll be fun to see how the future of the NBA plays out, especially with how bright it is.
