Lonzo Ball Receives Heartbreaking Update On His Knee Injury
While the wait for an official update on Lonzo Ball's injury continues, the general consensus is that he will not suit up for the Chicago Bulls for the remainder of the season.
Earlier, the team's Bulls vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas told the media that there would be an update on the guard's condition post the All-Star Weekend. Ball hasn't played in a game since Jan. 14, 2022, after suffering a torn meniscus in his knee against the Golden State Warriors.
He was initially expected to be around eight weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery, but his recovery update hasn't been promising since. Last April, Chicago said they would sideline Ball for the remainder of the season.
The last major update was in September when The Athletic's Shams Charania reported that there was some hope that Ball will play at some point in the season, but that looks bleak now.
Lonzo Ball Could Be Ruled Out Of The Remainder Of The 2022-23 Season
In a recent update, K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago spoke on the latest episode of the Bulls Talk Pod, and opined that it is a "foregone conclusion" that Ball's knee injury will keep him out for the entirety of the ongoing season as well.
This comes as a massive blow to the Bulls who have been stuttering this season. On the contract front, he inked a four-year, $80 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade deal in 2021 and averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists before going down with his injury.
It's not been a great run for the Bulls this season. At the time of writing, they are placed 11th in the East with a below-par 26-33 record. Adding to this is the concerning health of their star DeMar DeRozan (strained right quad) saw him miss a couple of contests and put a question over his suiting up for the All-Star game.
In the meantime, the Bulls were reportedly looking to add Russell Westbrook, who could replace Ball in the lineup. Only time will tell if they are indeed the Utah Jazz guard.
