The Los Angeles Clippers are expected to have a very busy offseason after failing to make it to the NBA Finals once again. The Los Angelenos team is set to make moves to upgrade the roster, but they aren’t planning to part with one of their two superstars.
Despite recent rumors suggesting that the Clippers were gauging interest in a potential Paul George trade, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports that the team isn’t expected to complete a deal for PG13.
“For all the mounting noise about Paul George’s trade candidacy in Los Angeles, don’t expect the Clippers to part with the eight-time All-Star. Portland has indeed registered interest in creating a package around the No. 3 pick for George, sources said, but those talks did not gain any traction with Los Angeles.”
There haven’t been signs of the Clippers wanting to let George go, which makes this very surprising. However, after seeing how the Boston Celtics moved Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies, anything can happen in the NBA.
Still, the Clippers’ general manager made it clear they will run it back next year with George and Kawhi Leonard. It’s not a secret that these two have failed the fans after only appearing in the 2021 Western Conference Finals, recording zero NBA Finals appearances.
The 2023-24 NBA season might be the last chance Leonard and George have to become NBA champions on the Clippers, but after several years of disappointing seasons, that seems unlikely now.
The Knicks And Clippers Have Reportedly Discussed A Paul George Trade
Fischer adds that the Clippers have discussed a potential trade with the New York Knicks, but the Californians intend to keep building around George and Leonard to see how far they can go next campaign.
“There has certainly been talk of New York’s interest in acquiring George should the Clippers truly make him available, but Los Angeles has the intention to continue bolstering its roster around George and Kawhi Leonard — as evidenced by the team’s attempt to bring Brogdon into the fold.”
The Malcolm Brogdon option is off the table with the player’s unknown health issue that prevented the three-team deal on Wednesday. The Clippers have been linked with other point guards around the league, including Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul.
With one or two additions, this team can finally challenge for a championship, but it remains to be seen which direction the front office takes this summer.
