Earlier, it was reported that he was dealing with a 'golfer's elbow' before tearing his tendon in his right hand, but it's unclear if that is indeed the issue.

Boston Celtics star Malcolm Brogdon is reportedly dealing with a health issue that renders him un-tradeable.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst shed light on the development on Thursday’s edition of Get Up on ESPN.

“Malcolm Brogdon, who was the key piece going from Boston to the Los Angeles Clippers in this [canceled] deal, Brogdon has a health issue, a health issue that as I understand, is so significant, that not only can the Celtics not do this trade, there’s probably no Malcolm Brogdon trade that they can do in the short term.”

This comes in the aftermath of the team trading Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team trade that landed them Kristaps Porzingis. The earlier plan was reportedly Brogdon. Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Celtics’ “clear intent” was originally to trade Brogdon and retain Smart, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard.

Last season, Brogdon was impactful, coming off the bench averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. But his numbers dipped in the playoffs as he propped up only 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

Earlier, it was reported that he was dealing with a ‘golfer’s elbow’ before tearing his tendon in his right hand. At the time of writing, it is unclear if that is the issue Windhorst was referring to.

How Are The Celtics Placed Without Marcus Smart?

Barring the glaring issue of how they would shore up on the defensive end, and their off-the-bench impact player, the Celtics look fairly sorted as a unit.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Porzingis leading the way, along with Al Horford, Robert Williams, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Brogdon, Boston is still a formidable threat to any team on their day.

They have the talent, the depth, and more importantly, the powerful offense that set them apart from other teams in the East. Recent reports suggest that they are not done making moves, which means there are more reinforcements coming their way.

According to Celtics reporter Brian Robb, “A league source tells MassLive the Celtics are far from done after trading for Kristaps Porzingis on Wednesday night. A closer look at the revamped roster and what could be on the horizon after a surprise Marcus Smart deal.”

It looks like Boston will be one of the teams to watch out for.
