The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked all season with just about any player that could even remotely help them. The team upgraded massively during the trade deadline, though, with Rob Pelinka making some serious moves and changing the roster in a major way. And even after, the Lakers have been linked with quite a few players on the buyout market, although it doesn’t look like those deals are too likely to happen.
The Los Angeles Lakers needed three things this season. They needed size, they needed shooting, and they needed another guard that can run the offense while also being able to score for himself. Their shooting has improved drastically, while size and defense are now bolstered by the arriving Jarred Vanderbilt, Mo Bamba, and Rui Hachimura. As for guard play, they were linked for the longest time with John Wall.
“If the team doesn’t trade him, Wall is a buyout candidate. But even if he is dealt, if the destination isn’t a playoff contender in need of a veteran backup, he could still be a free agent before the March 1 deadline. Given his ties to Klutch Sports, could he end up with the Los Angeles Lakers?”
However, the biggest piece they got, and the one that’s already looking good for the Lakers, is D’Angelo Russell. And Russell, while not being a traditional point guard, seems to be fitting in well, leaving no need to acquire Wall.
Los Angeles Lakers Likely Won’t Go For John Wall
John Wall seemed to be excited to join the Los Angeles Clippers this season, but things didn’t work out for him, and he was traded back to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets waived John Wall three days after acquiring him, but Sports Illustrated says the Lakers are unlikely to be going for him.
“The Lakers have been linked to Wall ever since they traded for Russell Westbrook. Now that they finally got the aging Westbrook off their team, would they really want to add another aging veteran past his prime in Wall? The answer is probably not…Wall wouldn’t help the Lakers more than some other candidates on the market, however, so I see the deal as highly unlikely.”
The logic here makes sense. There are other teams still looking for bodies in the point guard role. Whether John Wall finds a team or not remains to be seen, but it’s mostly not going to end up being the Los Angeles Lakers.
