Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks’ star guard, has always seen the potential in his former teammate Jalen Brunson, now shining with the New York Knicks. While Brunson’s breakout success with the Knicks might surprise some, Doncic knew it was only a matter of time before Brunson would rise to stardom.

“I would say one game that really was impressive on that playoff run, we lose the first game against Utah, I don’t play the first three games.”

“That second game, if we lost that second game, it would be tough to come back, we 0-2, and then we have two in Utah. That second game, I think he had like 45, something like that. It was a tough game, and we needed a win no matter what.”

“That game was really impressive. I was just on the bench watching like ‘Wow, this guy’s amazing.’ But just starting the first time we got together, the way he worked out everyday, coming back in the afternoon, it was just amazing to play with that.” (3:30)

During their time together in Dallas, Brunson gradually earned more minutes and eventually became a key player in the Mavericks‘ rotation, especially during the 2022 playoff run. However, it was a specific game during that playoff series against the Utah Jazz that solidified Brunson’s potential in Doncic’s eyes.

With Doncic sidelined due to injury, Brunson stepped up in a big way, delivering a remarkable performance with 41 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a crucial win. Watching from the bench, Doncic couldn’t help but be in awe of Brunson’s skills, realizing that he was witnessing something special.

Reflecting on their time together, Doncic praised Brunson’s work ethic and dedication to improving his game every day. He admired Brunson’s commitment to excellence and recognized his potential early on. Doncic recalled how impressive it was to witness Brunson’s determination and skill firsthand, both on and off the court.

Despite their successful partnership in Dallas, Brunson’s departure to the Knicks left a void in the Mavericks’ lineup. While Doncic undoubtedly wishes he could still be playing alongside Brunson, he acknowledges that joining the Knicks was the right move for Brunson’s career.

Now, with Brunson thriving in New York and earning his first All-Star selection, Doncic can’t help but feel proud of his former teammate’s accomplishments. Brunson’s meteoric rise serves as a testament to his talent and hard work, and Doncic is not surprised by his success. As the Knicks continue to excel with Brunson leading the charge, the Mavericks can’t help but wonder what could have been with him and Doncic together.

Jalen Brunson’s impressive stats this season with the Knicks further underscore his impact on the team’s success. He is averaging 27.2 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 48.2% from the field. These numbers solidify his status as one of the top guards in the league and validate Doncic’s belief in his former teammate’s abilities.

Jalen Brunson Is On The Verge On Becoming The Greatest Knicks Player Ever

Jalen Brunson’s meteoric rise with the New York Knicks has caught the attention of basketball fans worldwide, but perhaps no one is more impressed than his former teammate, Luka Doncic. As Brunson continues to lead the Knicks with remarkable performances night after night, speculation arises about his potential to become the greatest player in Knicks history, especially if he manages to lead the team to an NBA championship, a feat that has eluded the franchise for 51 years.

The trajectory of Brunson’s career is nothing short of astonishing. After signing with the Knicks for a substantial contract, many questioned the decision, but Brunson quickly silenced any doubts with his stellar play.

In his first season at Madison Square Garden, he led the Knicks to their first top-10 finish in offensive efficiency and secured their first playoff series win in a decade. In his second year, Brunson’s performance has only elevated, earning him his first All-Star selection and leading the Knicks to a 33-19 record.

With each game, Brunson demonstrates his exceptional talent and leadership on the court. His ability to control possessions, create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates, and maintain a high level of efficiency make him one of the top point guards in the NBA. Brunson’s impact on the Knicks’ offense is undeniable, as he consistently drives the team’s success with his playmaking vision and shotmaking touch.

If Brunson can sustain his remarkable performance and lead the Knicks to an NBA championship, there is no doubt that he will solidify his place as the greatest player in Knicks history. His contributions to the team’s success, combined with his individual accolades and impact on the court, make him a leading candidate for this title. As the Knicks continue their pursuit of greatness, all eyes will be on Brunson as he seeks to etch his name in the annals of basketball history.
