Marcus Morris Didn’t Attend Russell Westbrook’s Mandatory Las Vegas Workouts And Unfollowed Him On Instagram

There might be some trouble in Clipper land at the moment.

  • Russell Westbrook held mandatory workouts for Clippers players in Las Vegas
  • Marcus Morris, however, did not show up
  • Morris also appears to have now unfollowed Westbrook on Instagram

Russell Westbrook held mandatory workouts for Los Angeles Clippers players in Las Vegas in September, but not everyone showed up for them. Andrew Greif from the Los Angeles Times reported that Marcus Morris was one of the players who did not attend.

“Westbrook made clear attending team dinners, and workouts, were mandatory during the weekend,” Grief wrote. “The only players who did not attend were Nicolas Batum and Ivica Zubac, who were out of the country, and Marcus Morris Sr.”

Nicolas Batum played at the 2023 FIBA World Cup for France, while Croatian Ivica Zubac might just have been back home, so you could excuse their absence. For Morris, however, there really can be no excuse for not showing up.

It was just a great initiative from Westbrook to build up chemistry and gear up for the 2023-24 season. It is just a really bad look for Morris to skip it and as per Grief, Westbrook had also gifted iPhone 15 Pro Max’s worth $1,200 to his teammates who attended, so he missed out on that too.

To add some more spice to this situation, Morris has unfollowed Westbrook on Instagram too now, it would appear.

While it’s unclear if there has been a breakdown in the relationship between these two, in particular, what we have heard, is that Morris is not a happy camper at the moment.

Marcus Morris Is Unhappy With His Role

Morris has played for the Clippers for the last four seasons and, in that time, had become one of the favorites of head coach Tyronn Lue. This past season, though, Morris averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game, and you could see a clear decline in his game.

Lue still stuck by him, but his minutes did eventually go down as the season went on. That has seemingly frustrated the 34-year-old, with Morris being unhappy with his role on the Clippers.

Well, one way to get a bigger role would have been to show your commitment to the cause by going to the workouts. Work your socks off there and show the leaders on the team that you deserve to play more.

Not showing up isn’t going to help him get more minutes, and Morris isn’t exactly a sought-after commodity on the trade market either. It looks like he might be set for an extremely frustrating 2023-24 campaign.

Russell Westbrook Doesn’t Believe 2023-24 Is ‘Championship Or Bust’ For The Clippers

Gilbert Arenas said that Lue told him Westbrook is the leader of the Clippers, and considering he’s the one organizing these workouts, it seems pretty clear that is the case. The 34-year-old really did shake things up on arrival earlier this year, with Paul George stating that Westbrook changed the culture of the Clippers.

As the leader, he is now trying to ensure there is not too much pressure on the team. Westbrook stated he doesn’t think the Clippers are in a championship or bust season, and believes it is just something that people make up.

While I wouldn’t describe Clippers season as that either, it is pretty close to it. Both Kawhi Leonard and George can become free agents next year, and if this campaign goes horribly wrong, it might be the end for this iteration of the franchise.
