The Los Angeles Clippers are headed into a pivotal offseason as they could be headed into the final season of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George being a viable championship duo with age and injuries piling up. The roster around the duo is going to be crucial, though some players are unhappy.

The LA Times reported that Marcus Morris Sr. is unhappy with the Clippers abruptly changing his role midseason and reducing his involvement without communicating the same.

“During recent weeks Morris (who will earn $17.1 million next season) has made known within league circles his displeasure about his abrupt role change late last season and the team’s sparse communication with him around it.”

Morris was a crucial part of the Clippers after being acquired in early-2020, being one of their most important rotational options for two seasons after that. He signed a four-year, $64 million extension after half a season and his value has steadily plateaued.

He averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists last season, seeing his minutes reduce from 29.9 in the first half of the season to 25.5 in the second half, before averaging just 22.7 minutes in three played playoff games.

Rotational Changes Coming For The Clippers

The Clippers have a bloated roster with players that failed to be competitive without their stars yet again. No matter how many changes the Clippers make, it won’t make them a contender without Leonard and George on the floor. With a pursuit of Chris Paul and re-signing of Russell Westbrook expected for their point guard spot, the various wings on the roster could be vulnerable.

Morris is on an expiring $17 million contract, and the Clippers can trade their 2028 and 2030 first-round picks if needed to further bolster their roster. Trading picks that far into the future wouldn’t be ideal, as they’ll definitely convey after the end of the current era of the Clippers. Players like Robert Covington may also be on the move, as the Clippers will have to look for some youth and athleticism on this roster.
