The Dallas Mavericks made a blockbuster trade for Kyrie Irving prior to the trade deadline this season, but unfortunately, the move has not worked out as planned for the team. They have struggled after the trade deadline and are currently out of the play-in tournament.

Despite the team’s struggles after his acquisition, it seems as though the Dallas Mavericks will still try to retain Kyrie Irving. In fact, Mark Cuban recently claimed that keeping him on the team is the franchise’s top priority.

It is clear that the Dallas Mavericks acquired Kyrie Irving with the intention of keeping him long-term. They desperately needed a secondary ballhandler next to Luka Doncic after the departure of Jalen Brunson, and Irving is not to blame for the problems that have plagued the team. Hopefully, we will see the Dallas Mavericks retain him in free agency, and some recent reports suggested that Irving wants to stay with the team

This season, Kyrie Irving has averaged 27.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.3 APG, and there’s no doubt that he’s had a fantastic year. If he is healthy, Irving is an All-NBA level player, and hopefully, we will get to see him and Luka Doncic find success together next season.

Stephen A. Smith Believes Kyrie Irving Is Not The Problem For The Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have a number of issues on their roster, and even though their struggles were exacerbated after the Kyrie Irving trade, their being a poor team is not his fault. In fact, Stephen A. Smith has recently claimed that he has nothing negative to say about Kyrie Irving’s time in Dallas.

“I don’t have a single negative syllable to utter about Kyrie Irving,” Smith said on First Take. “He is not the problem in Dallas. He is averaging 26 a game, 51% shooting from the field, about 37% shooting from three-point range. He is a reliable offensive weapon in the fourth quarter. He has brought to Dallas what you brought him to Dallas to do. Luka is the one, dare I say, that has a huge question mark hovering over him, and it’s nothing statistical. … Luka gets 41, and they lose the game. Luka’s not only depressed after the game, he looks depressed during the game.

Hopefully, we will see the Dallas Mavericks figure out their issues ahead of next season. They can still build a competitive team around Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, and we’ll see what happens in the future. Luka Doncic himself needs to improve as well, and he needs to make a number of changes to his game to be the best version of himself. Overall, there are a lot of changes that need to be made around the organization, so they can become a true championship contender.
