Despite winning Game 1 of the 2023 NBA Finals, head coach Michael Malone doesn’t believe his Denver Nuggets played great.

While addressing the media, coach Malone mentioned a stat that isn’t flattering at all and should worry the Nuggets’ players ahead of Game 2.

“I don’t think we played well in Game 1. … The fact that they got 16 wide-open threes is problematic,” Malone said, via Anthony Chiang.

This is indeed worrisome for the Nuggets should the Heat have better accuracy when taking these shots. They have big shooters that didn’t perform at their best in Game 1, but if they keep getting these good looks, the Nuggets will have a lot to worry about for the rest of the series.

Still, the Nuggets are playing great basketball, and with the adjustments ahead of Game 2, they shouldn’t have any problem taking a 2-0 lead in this series. Jimmy Butler and co. are ready to shock the world and tie the series, which would be a good scenario for the Heat coming back to Miami.

Denver Nuggets Have Evolved A Lot In The Past Three Years

This Nuggets team has had plenty of time to become the big squad they are right now. Ever since their last Western Conference Finals appearance in 2020, they have evolved a lot. Donovan Mitchell talked about the differences between the team he faced in the Orlando bubble and this one, naming their versatility a big reason why they’ve been so good.

As things stand right now, the Nuggets remain big favorites to win it all this season, but Miami doesn’t play that way. This team remains a threat to anybody, regardless of how they played in the first game.

Jokic finished with a triple-double, Jamal Murray added a double-double, and the rest of the team stepped up to take the Nuggets to a big win over the Heat. The Nuggets were locked in in Game 1, and it showed.
