The 2020-21 NBA championship was won by the Milwaukee Bucks and superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. Prior to their recent win, there was a lot of discussion on whether Giannis Antetokounmpo could win a championship with the Bucks. Many thought that he should have left to go somewhere he could team up with other superstars like others have done in the past. However, Giannis Antetokounmpo ended up signing an extension with the Bucks and has shown that it is possible to win without a superteam in a small market.

Coach Mike Budenholzer has recently commented on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s championship with the Bucks and claimed that “most people” want to win a championship in a similar manner. It is quite an accomplishment for a superstar like Antetokounmpo to bring a championship to a small market, especially the one that drafted him.

Draft ➡️ Growth ➡️ Champs

There’s just so many different ways to build a team. So many different ways that our league is exciting and entertaining. But certainly, when you’re drafted by somebody and you grow up there, and you find a way to lead that organization, that city, that team to a championship, i think that’probably how most people want it to happen. And certainly it has for Giannis. The city… it’s on fire, Milwaukee is still I think celebrating. It’s just fun to be a part of that. And Khris (Middleton) too you know, Khris being there for 8 years, those guys being together, and being kind of the cornerstones and building around them. It’s a lot of fun to see it kinda happen this way.

There is no doubt that winning the championship was amazing for the team and for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The last time the city has tasted an NBA championship was during 1971 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar leading the Bucks 50 years ago. For now, the champions can bask in their glory, but the path to repeating will be more difficult next season. However knowing Giannis Antetokounmpo’s mentality, he’ll be up for even the most difficult of challenges.
