The Minnesota Timberwolves have put speculation to rest after they secured one of their players for the future. The No. 8 seed in the Western Conference this season is trying to improve their level and keeping Naz Reid on the roster is crucial.

The center doesn’t have the same attention that some of his teammates get, but he’s a coveted player around the NBA, drawing attention from several teams around the association, but ultimately re-signing with the Timberwolves.

“Timberwolves center Naz Reid has agreed on a new three-year, $42 million deal with a player option, his agents Sean Kennedy and Jeff Schwartz of @excelbasketball tell ESPN. Undrafted out of LSU, Reid had his best season with 11.5 points and 4.9 rebounds,” Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

This move might be confusing to people, considering that free agency hasn’t started yet. Reid was allowed to sign now because he’s extension-eligible and on an expiring contract. Other players who have one year remaining on their current deals need to wait until the league year changes.

After posting his best season to date, averaging 11.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 68 games, Reid earned a big extension. He’s played four seasons with the Timberwolves, helping the team compete despite their limitations.

Naz Reid Was Followed By A Series Of Teams Around The League

This was a big deal for the Timberwolves since Reid has been followed by other teams around the league. The Los Angeles Lakers were ready to make a run for him in free agency

The Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets were also said to be interested in a move for Reid.

Fortunately for the Timberwolves, they secured his signing. Minnesota underperformed last season, considering that some of its players said it was championship or bust after landing Rudy Gobert.

Next season the expectations should be lower, but it’s clear that they’re ready to compete.
