This year’s NBA All-Star weekend is shaping up to be one of the all-time best. Between Friday’s exciting and highly competitive games, and today’s premier All-Star event, it’s no surprise that fans have been buzzing about the All-Star festivities in Utah.
But some might be surprised to know that last night’s All-Star events actually set a record with over 520 million views. Ahead of Sunday’s closing contest, the NBA celebrated the milestone in a viral Tweet.
State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, highlighted by the Philadelphia 76ers’ Mac McClung’s performance in the AT&T Slam Dunk, generated more than half a billion video views in the first 12 hours. The 520M views are the most-ever for an All-Star Saturday night and continue to grow.

It’s no secret that interest in All-Star weekend was waning before this year’s events. Between a dying dunk contest and a defensively-compromised All-Star game, the league had to address and tweak several factors of All-Star weekend.
But thanks to constant adjustments from the league, they’ve finally landed on success in all of the events, and especially the dunk contest that Mac McClung absolutely took over.
Who Will Win Tonight’s All-Star Game?
The 2023 All-Star weekend isn’t yet done. After two days of nonstop fun, the main event is expected to be the best of them all. This year, fans will even get to enjoy a live All-Star draft right before tip-off, thanks to Kevin Durant.
“It’d be fire if we picked right before the game, though. In the locker room, like ‘let me get him, let me get him. They can have the jerseys ready. It’d be so fire, to have 2 jerseys ready no matter what, we good. We got two pairs of shoes, you know what I mean? We giving the NBA ideas man, for free on ETCs.”
As the NBA continues to grow and expand, we will continue to see Adam Silver and league executives try and test new ways to broaden their brand and increase the overall product.
Tweaking the All-Star game is obviously one of the best ways to do that, and we are seeing the results with record numbers across the board.
The future is bright for basketball, and one can only imagine what other changes to the formula we might see over the next few years.
