Who Is Kelcey Wright Johnson?

Johnson is a Toronto native who graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism from Ryerson University in April 2013. She was the captain of the varsity basketball team there for four years, but ultimately, a career in media was what was in store for her.

Johnson would then get her Master of Journalism from Western University, but success didn’t come as quickly as she had envisioned. It took a few years of undertaking various writing and on-camera gigs until she finally got her big break. In 2019, the Grizzlies hired her and made her the first-ever Canadian female NBA host in the U.S.

She has gone from strength to strength since then and also hosts the Just Grizzlies podcast for the franchise. It has been an incredible experience for her, and Johnson shared some details on what her life has been like.

Being a great interviewer is not as easy as it might look to some. A lot of work goes into it, and it is a testament to how good Johnson has been at her job that she is still with the organization in 2024.

Johnson’s appearance is inevitably what the focus will always be on, but she deserves a lot of respect for her work.

As for her personal life, Johnson was born into a sports family. Her mother, Penny Wright, is the first female to referee a men’s university basketball game in Canada while her father, Rob Wright, is a long-standing board member of Ontario and Canada Basketball. Johnson is also married to a coach, although, she hasn’t divulged too many details regarding her marriage.
