When Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving first joined forces back in 2019, nobody imagined it would end like this. After years of chaos and early playoff exits, Kyrie is no longer a Net after today’s breaking news of his trade to the Mavericks.

Now, Kevin Durant is the last one remaining on a Brooklyn team that is almost unrecognizable from the one he first joined.

On Twitter, fans, analysts, and experts weighed in with their thoughts on the big trade and how it will impact both teams. They also revealed their final thoughts on the Durant/Kyrie era, which ended in a blaze of smoke and fire.

On the court, we saw flashes of who the Nets could be at their best. Together, Irving and Durant were unstoppable and helped carry a Nets team that looked like the best in the league for 6 straight weeks.

Still, they never reached expectations in the playoffs and fans can’t help but look back on it all as a complete failure.

What has once been considered the best duo in basketball is no longer together and it is truly a shame. In a perfect world, Durant and Irving would have formed a dynasty together in Brooklyn and fulfilled the promise they made to each other, and the fans, when they signed their contracts years ago.

But Irving is out now, and Durant could soon follow.

NBA Teams Watching Kevin Durant Amid Kyrie Irving’s Departure

With Kyrie out the door, what’s stopping Durant from dusting off the trade request he made this summer? While KD still has years left on his deal, and the Nets seem determined to build around him, the team he’s playing with now isn’t good enough to compete for a title.

“I’m told that the trade request surprised everyone in Brooklyn today, including Kevin Durant,” said Adrian Wojnarowski.

A Durant trade would be even more seismic than the Irving trade has been, and at least half of the league would be interested in making a move for Durant.

At this time, however, we don’t yet know what KD’s next move will be. At least, for now, we have to assume he’s going to continue the season in Brooklyn like normal.

After that, nobody can predict what might happen…
