Life in the NBA can be really brutal, the business of basketball is as cold as it gets. Almost no player can rest knowing that they won’t be traded, and during this time of the year, those on contending teams are often living with the knowledge that the team might move on from them if the right deal becomes available.

Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith discovered this on Sunday, with the Dallas Mavericks trading them in a package that netted them Kyrie Irving. Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith had helped the Mavericks massively in reaching the Western Conference Semifinals, and Finney-Smith is a homegrown product, but both were shipped off by the franchise.

The two Dallas players might have been expecting something like this after the links to Kyrie Irving had been heating up following his trade request. And it makes sense that Dinwiddie had to be included in the trade, the Nets needed to get a guard back for Kyrie Irving. These two are not the first players that the Mavericks will have wanted to give up, but ultimately, Brooklyn’s history with Dinwiddie also explains why he was part of the trade. And hilariously enough, the point guard had a witty reaction.

Spencer Dinwiddie Reacted To Shams Charania Reporting On The Kyrie Irving To Dallas Mavericks Trade

As always, Shams Charania was among the first to break the news of the trade, with the size of the move catching the NBA fandom off-guard. And with reports that talks escalated on Sunday itself, it seems even Dinwiddie found out about it, just like the rest of us. His reaction is a testament to what a classy guy he is.

“When @ShamsCharania says it’s time to go you pack your bags. Plus Elijah said he wanted to go back home.”

“To the #mffl like I’ve always said y’all and BKN have made my NBA experience. Nothing but immaculate vibes as @tpinsonn would say.”

Spencer Dinwiddie was crucial in helping the Dallas Mavericks reach the Western Conference Finals last season, scoring 30 himself in the Game 7 demolition of the Phoenix Suns. He was well-liked in Dallas, but it’s safe to say that if a move can be made for an All-NBA talent like Kyrie Irving, that’s something that has to happen. Ultimately, Dinwiddie was a favorite in Brooklyn too, and his family will be looking forward to heading back home.
