  • Jarace Walker was picked No. 4 overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2023 NBA Draft
  • A video of Walker having to pay $9,000 on a night out went viral on social media
  • NBA fans found Jarace Walker having to pay massive bills already quite hilarious

Making it to the NBA is the dream of young men and their parents all across the world. It’s not just for the glory that comes with being one of the world’s best athletes but also because even a minimum NBA contract is worth more than a million dollars.

That generational wealth comes with its drawbacks though, as the Indiana Pacers’ No. 4 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Jarace Walker, recently found out. On what seems like a random night out, a video showed the 20-year-old Walker getting stuck with a $9,000 tab.

The first-year salary of the No. 4 overall pick in the NBA draft is $7.23 million at a median mark. Walker has signed a 4-year, $27.5 million deal with the Pacers, but the team has options on the final two years of the contract.

That is a lot of money and surely the people around Jarace Walker know this. It’s no surprise that his teammates are expecting him to pick up these massive tabs, it’s just a sad truth for young NBA stars to deal with.

NBA Fans Trolled Jarace Walker After The Video Went Viral

Despite his being ready to make millions already, a $9,000 bill is too much for a 20-year-old like Jarace Walker. And unsurprisingly, NBA fans had a lot to say about the clip after it blew up on social media.

One fan simply said that if he was in the same position, he’d just refuse to pay.

While a lot of fans had sympathy for Walker in that situation, one fan pointed out that it was only a small part of the No. 4 overall pick’s salary.

While most fans were busy talking about the size of the bill, one fan went into the details of it. Realizing that Walker was paying roughly $900 in tax, the fan had to share his surprise.

While many fans were joking about it and some were taking it seriously, one pointed out that this is a common prank that NBA veterans play on rookies.

The video was shared from Tyrese Haliburton’s story, who himself signed a deal worth $230 million. Any fans of Jarace Walker will be hoping that it was just a prank and that he wasn’t asked to pay that much for his teammates.

Rookie Hazing Is A Part Of NBA Locker Room Culture

The 1980s and 90s were quite wild in terms of what NBA veterans would make rookies do, and a lot of that culture has gone away as the social climate has changed.

But making rookies buy food is something that is a time-honored tradition that has lasted for a long time in the NBA. It’s happened to be the best players in the past, and Jarace Walker will be hoping to follow in their footsteps.

The Indiana Pacers are far from the best team in the league, and their young talent will take some time to come into their own. Jarace Walker will be hoping he’s still a millionaire by the time that happens.
