The Houston Rockets desperately needed some veteran leadership in their locker room and Fred VanVleet had been rumored to be one of their top targets. The 29-year-old averaged 19.3 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 7.2 APG, 1.8 SPG, and 0.6 BPG last season and was one of the top free agents in the market in 2023.

The Rockets did manage to get their man on the first day of free agency, but it came at a big price, with VanVleet landing a three-year, $130 million contract and NBA fans reacted to it.

One fan felt this was a massive overpay.

VanVleet got a better deal than Kyrie Irving, which amused one fan.

HE GETTING MORE THAN KYRIE 💀

One fan is more eager to watch Rockets games now after VanVleet’s arrival.

Now I'm more eager to watch this Rockets team next year! Sheesh.

One fan praised the acquisition and believes head coach Ime Udoka now has a solid team to work with.

Big time get. Udoka going to have a decent team to work with.

The Rockets were blasted by one fan, who called it the worst contract in sports history.

Worst contract in sports history. Oh my goodness

It had been reported previously that the Rockets could offer VanVleet $40 million per year and it ended up being a bit more than that at $43.3 million. What makes this rather interesting, though is that they are already loaded on the backcourt.

They had agreed to a four-year, $82.5 million deal with Kevin Porter Jr. last season and just drafted Amen Thompson with the fourth pick of the 2023 NBA Draft. They also have Jalen at the two-guard spot, so it’ll be interesting to see how their backcourt shapes up in 2023-24.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
