Ranking players in the NBA in absolute format is never going to be accurate, as there is no consensus on how all the players in the NBA would rank on a list. Every publication makes these lists and everyone differs.
There are certain players that are expected to be in certain tiers regardless. Nick Wright put that theory to the test by making a pyramid with player rankings that have infuriated fans.

A fan delved deeper into Wright’s lack of criteria, “His criteria is so trivial. He’ll have AD top 10 for his defense and then have a bunch of score-first/no-defense guards ahead of Kawhi. He’ll say missing games is why Kyrie is so low, but put Towns, AD, and LeBron, ahead of it. He’ll say defense matters and then put Jokic that high.”

It’s hard to ascertain what parameters Wright actually values while making a ranking like this. It was bound to be attacked by eagle-eyed NBA fans.
Is This A Fair List?
If it’s based purely on this season, having someone like Khris Middleton, who’s struggled with injuries and form, ahead of players like Julius Randle and Jaren Jackson Jr. is much harder to justify. If it’s the general assessment of who’s better, having 6 players ahead of Nikola Jokic is not fair to the big man.
Giannis Antetokounmpo being the best player in the league is a fair opinion and not one that should warrant criticism. But to say players like Ja Morant are already on the same level as LeBron James or ahead of Damian Lillard, Kawhi Leonard, and James Harden seems dishonest.
If there was a consistent theme of ranking across the list, maybe fans would have been kinder. Ultimately, it’s all opinions and has minimal impact on what the players actually end up producing on the court.
