Knicks guard Josh Hart has always been somewhat of an interesting character. This week, during a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Hart demonstrated his wackier side with an inappropriate NSFW gesture on the sidelines that caught some attention on social media.

It looks like Hart didn’t even realize he was on camera until the very end, when he turns his head with a shocked and confused expression on his face. Whether it was his way of expressing disappointment at the loss or just an honest moment of innocent fun, Hart went viral for the clip, which amassed over 1.9 million views on X. As we can see in the clip, nobody noticed Hart’s dirty motions, but fans blew up the comments with all kinds of jokes, memes, and quips making fun of the veteran guard.

NBA Fans Rip Josh Hart

NSFW content is hardly alien to the NBA landscape. In fact, back in the 90s, players used to use swear words and expletives all the time to describe their rivals or let off some steam. Kevin Garnett, for example, once cursed out Joakim Noah in a game after he opened up about having his poster on the wall. In the case of Josh Hart, it was the unspoken symbols that sparked controversy as fans demanded an explanation.

One fan took it a step further by invoking the name of Dwight Howard, who was recently exposed in a sexual assault allegation this summer with another man.

While this moment is probably one of the wilder ones we’ve seen from Hart, it’s not the first time that he’s been caught in the act of weirdness. As some pointed out in the comments, Josh has built an impressive track record of meme material.

The bad news for Hart is that the NBA could issue a fine if they deem his actions to be against league rules. While it’s unlikely that Hart will be punished, it’s a big risk anytime that a player is caught doing something questionable like that. For now, though, Hart can rest easy knowing that the fans are making jokes at his expense.

What Will Happen To The Knicks This Season?

Josh Hart isn’t a superstar for the New York Knicks, but his arrival signaled the start of a new era for the franchise. With his arrival, the team filled a major need in the rotation and he’s been a perfect fit on both ends of the floor. Admittedly, Hart has struggled mightily this season with shooting splits of 36% and 31% from three, but teammates including Jalen Brunson, R.J. Barrett, and Julius Randle have picked up the slack.

For RJ in particular, it looks like he could be in the early stages of a breakout season and it could be enough to push the Knicks into the realm of title contention. Of course, without a true superstar to lead them, the Knicks will always be underdogs in the playoffs… but that didn’t stop them from making an inspiring playoff run in 2023.
