LeBron James‘ future is among the hardest things to predict for the 2024 offseason. Most people think LeBron will re-sign with the Lakers for a massive payday, but grumbling continues about James possibly leaving the Lakers to sign with the team that drafts his son, Bronny. The reputed Marc Stein claims there are at least two teams in the NBA that LeBron could join for a discount if they draft Bronny.

“I know of at least two teams on the NBA map that believe LeBron James would consider signing with them at far less than $51.4 million if Bronny James is on the roster. There might be more.”

James possibly signing with the team that drafts his son on a minimum contract has been thrown around over the last season, but most believed that to be an unlikely scenario. But with Stein also saying this is a possibility, fans should keep their eyes peeled to see what happens with Bronny at the June Draft.

Bronny’s representatives are aggressively closing the door on other teams interested in him as a prospect, with over 10 teams reportedly being turned down for workout invites. The only invites Bronny has accepted come from the Lakers and the Suns. Given the Suns are a superteam with the likes of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, they could be a legitimate destination for LeBron to compete for a title alongside his son.

James would have to take a massive pay cut to join the Suns if Bronny is on the roster, with the team unable to offer LeBron anything other than the veteran’s minimum, a near-$50 million pay cut for LeBron.

The only other contending team that could be looking at Bronny is the Philadelphia 76ers, who also have the cap space to give LeBron a compelling contract offer in the summer. While it might not be worth the max contract he can make with the Lakers, LeBron might be enticed into taking $25 million to team up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey while teaming up with Bronny and leaving room for a robust rotation to be signed.

Bronny James Doesn’t Dream Of Playing Alongside LeBron

Bronny James is on the precipice of fulfilling a dream millions work towards, which is being drafted into the NBA. He is thankful for the opportunity and made it clear that his dream has always been to play in the NBA, not play alongside his father in the NBA,

“My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and get to the NBA, which is everyone’s end goal that’s here. I never thought about just playing with my dad, but of course, he’s brought it up a couple of times. But yeah, I don’t think about it much.”

Shortly after Bronny said this, a report came out suggesting that LeBron won’t be switching teams if Bronny isn’t on the Lakers. Conventional wisdom would suggest that’s the logical move, as LeBron has built six years of continuity on the Lakers and nobody else can play him as much as the LA-based franchise.

Regardless, everyone is acutely aware that drafting Bronny could open the door for LeBron to sign with that team. It might not be this summer, but that hope will be alive until LeBron announces his retirement. Teaming the James’ up will be a marketing dream and could lead to on-court success, provided the situation is right for it.
