Luka Doncic Is Set To Become The First Player In NBA History To Sign A $200M Max Contract Extension

Hoops Habit

The Dallas Mavericks are still fresh off their Round 1 loss to the L.A. Clippers, but Luka Doncic still has a whole lot to look forward to.

This summer, he’s in line to earn a massive payday that will literally make NBA history.

Supermax contracts are usually reserved for superstar veterans in the prime of their careers. For Luka, though, the Mavs are making an exception.

Doncic, 22, is already one of the game’s best players. This past season, he averaged 27.7 points, 8.6 assists, and 8 rebounds per game on 47.9% shooting to lead the Mavericks to the 5th seed in the West.

Despite his youth and inexperience, Doncic is undoubtedly worth every penny of that max extension. His talent and scoring ability are just unmatched, as he proved in the 2021 playoffs.

Perhaps best of all, Doncic being happy and locked-up long term helps to attract other free agents to the franchise. In the years to come, the Mavericks could be major players in the sweepstakes for several high-profile stars.

Needless to say, the future is bright for Dallas. And while nobody knows what’s next for them, having Doncic secured for the future is definitely a good place to start.
