Michael Jordan’s competitive nature and no-nonsense parenting style have been well-documented, but a recent Instagram Live chat between his son Jeffery Jordan and Horace Grant Jr. gave fans a hilarious and humbling glimpse into what it was like growing up in the Jordan household.
It all started when Jeffery, Michael’s eldest son, and Horace Grant Jr., the son of MJ’s former Bulls teammate Horace Grant, decided to skip out on a school day at Loyola. Jeffery texted Horace, claiming he was sick and heading home early. Horace, whose mother was out of town with Jeffery’s mom, decided to leave school too, assuming they’d have the house to themselves and a relaxing day off.
But they made one crucial miscalculation: Michael Jordan wasn’t buying it.
Horace Grant Jr.: “You remember when we were at Loyola and you were sick, and then you texted me you were going home? And I’m like, I’m not gonna stay here because our moms were out of town together. Your dad had to come pick us up. And he said we were faking. You remember what happened afterwards?”
Jeffery Jordan: “I absolutely remember. He knew we were faking as soon as we got home, and he was like, ‘Okay. You guys wanna stay home? I got some work for you to do.’ And basically made us clean every car in his garage. I wanna say it was, like, 30, 36 cars.”
Horace Grant Jr.: “37. I remember. 37. I remember.”
Jeffery Jordan: “It was funny. We thought we were about to get a free day and, you know, play some video games. And nope, as soon as we got home, we had a bucket and a washcloth, ready to wash the Ferrari.”

Jeffery added that they went from expecting a chill day of video games and snacks to holding buckets and washcloths, wiping down a lineup of luxury vehicles, including one of MJ’s Ferraris. That was the price for trying to outsmart the GOAT. No shortcuts, no soft landings, just hard lessons, Jordan-style.

What Is Jeffery Jordan Doing Now?
Jeffery Jordan may not have followed in his father’s footsteps onto an NBA court, but he’s carved out a successful path of his own in the business and sports tech worlds. After briefly playing college basketball at the University of Illinois and later the University of Central Florida, Jeffery transitioned into entrepreneurship and brand strategy.
Today, Jeffery is the co-founder of Heir Inc., a tech and consumer brand platform aiming to connect athletes directly with fans through Web3 experiences and digital ownership. He’s also involved with the Jordan family’s philanthropic efforts and has worked closely with Nike and the Jordan Brand.
Unlike his father, Jeffery has leaned more into tech, innovation, and community-building rather than competition. But that work ethic, instilled through Ferrari-washing punishments and more, clearly stuck.
