Paul George made his return to the court last night in spectacular fashion. George sustained an injury in December that kept him out for almost 4 months. And last night, George came back, scored 34 points, and helped the LA Clippers overturn a 25-point deficit to defeat the Utah Jazz. George’s return has Clipper fans buzzing, as it means that they can be more competitive, especially heading into the NBA playoffs.
Paul George spoke after the game about his return. He started off by giving props to Kobe Bryant, someone whom he looked up to throughout his career, noting that Kobe always came back from injuries, regardless of the situation, to try and help his team. George added that he holds himself to a high standard and that he wanted to return to try and help his team make a push, especially into the playoffs.
“Kobe Bryant, who you know, he plays through stuff like this. And I always hold myself to a high standard. And at the end of the day, when I’m finished, I want to look at my career and say I gave everything I had, I wanted to help my guys, I didn’t want to leave them out here hanging for the rest of the season. I felt good so it was only right to come back.”
George’s return will be huge for the LA Clippers, especially as they prepare to enter the playoffs through the play-in tournament. Clipper fans will be hoping that Kawhi Leonard also returns soon, along with Norman Powell. If the Clippers can get their players back healthy, they will emerge as contenders in the Western Conference once again, and be one of the favorites to reach the NBA Finals.
George and the Clippers played really well, especially considering PG had been out with an injury for many months. The Clippers will be hoping that George can sustain the level of play he displayed last night against the Jazz for the rest of the Clippers’ campaign, however long that may be. But the Clippers organization has good reason to be optimistic, especially if things go right with Kawhi Leonard.
