Steve Kerr On Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, And James Wiseman: “If We Hope To Be A Championship Contender In The Next Couple Of Years, Those Three Guys Have To Learn To Play Together”

Crazy as it may sound but the Golden State Warriors are still a work in progress. They’re still trying to figure things out after an injury-riddled season and a lot of new guys on the team.

Perhaps the most interesting addition they made this year was the 2nd-overall pick, James Wiseman. The rookie out of Memphis University clearly has a high upside and is a special talent but, as you could expect with most young players – especially big men – there have been some growing pains.

Wiseman and Draymond Green can kind of run into each other from time to time and that’s hurting the Warriors’ spacing more often than not. Also, neither of them has stepped up on those nights when Stephen Curry just can’t score 40 points.

That’s why, in the wake of their recent struggles, coach Steve Kerr showed his concern regarding their chemistry on the court, stating that they have to figure it out if they want to be contenders:

“If we hope to be a championship contender in the next couple of years, those three guys have to learn to play together,” Kerr told reporters, as quoted by Drew Shillers.

It’s still pretty early to panic and the Warriors have too much talent not to figure this out. Steve Kerr has proven to be a solid coach and they have plenty of times to make adjustments and fulfill their potential.

The Warriors are no longer the most dominant team in the NBA as they were over the past five years or so, but it wouldn’t be smart to just count them out already, especially when Klay Thompson comes back from his season-ending injury.
