NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady has made some very bold predictions for the 2026-27 season, and one player dominated every category.
Speaking recently in a viral Instagram video, Tracy McGrady backed the San Antonio Spurs to win the NBA championship while also saying that Victor Wembanyama will sweep almost every individual award. He also picked Utah Jazz rookie Darryn Peterson to capture the Rookie of the Year award.
“My Rookie of the Year is going to Darryn Peterson. NBA champion for next year: the San Antonio Spurs. MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Man of the Year, Tallest Guy of the Year, Big Feet Man of the Year—all the awards are going to Wemby. All but Sixth Man of the Year.”
“Wemby is about to win MVP, regular-season MVP, NBA Cup MVP, Western Conference Finals MVP, Finals MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year. I’m telling you, bro, Wemby is about to be on a mission. If Wemby comes back 10 pounds heavier, the league is going to be in trouble anyway. But if he comes back like that next year, for sure: title, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year.”

It is quite easy to understand why McGrady is so optimistic about Victor Wembanyama.
He’s coming off his best year so far, averaging 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 3.1 blocks while shooting 51.2% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range. This dominant season earned him his first All-NBA First Team selection, his second NBA All-Defensive First Team honor, and his first Defensive Player of the Year award.
Wembanyama also finished third in the MVP voting behind eventual winner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic. Along with that, he also claimed the league’s blocks title for the third straight season since his debut, showing why he has developed a reputation as the NBA’s most impactful defender.
The Spurs, as a team, also took a major step this season. They made a surprising NBA Finals run, beating the favored Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals in seven games. Even though they ultimately fell 4-1 to the New York Knicks, there is a lot of hope and optimism surrounding this young squad.
T-Mac thinks this Finals experience, combined with one more season of development from Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, will be enough to push the Spurs over the top next year.
His confidence also extends to the Utah Jazz’s newest franchise addition. McGrady picked the No. 2 overall pick, Darryn Peterson, as his Rookie of the Year favorite after the former high school standout was selected by the Jazz in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Peterson enters the NBA with plenty of expectations after averaging 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 43.8% from the field and 38.2% from three-point range for Kansas in his lone college season.
The Jazz are expected to give Peterson a chance to contribute immediately, and McGrady thinks the talented guard has everything in his game to emerge as the top rookie in his class.
While preseason predictions rarely turn out to be right, McGrady’s predictions reflect the growing excitement around the San Antonio Spurs’ future.
The Spurs have already established themselves as legitimate contenders, and many around the league think that Wembanyama is only beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. If the 21-year-old makes another leap next season, the Spurs could very well end up back in the NBA Finals with a chance to capture their first championship since 2014.
If that happens, McGrady thinks the individual accolades will naturally follow. In his eyes, the 2026-27 season could ultimately belong to just one player: Victor Wembanyama.
