The Dallas Mavericks are not having a fun season. After carelessly letting their second-best player walk for nothing in free agency, the Mavericks have struggled all season long with a poorly constructed roster. They’re above .500 because Luka Doncic might be the best individual player in the league, but even he can’t save them every night.

In what was becoming an ugly blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Luka Doncic was given a second technical foul by referee Rodney Mott for allegedly saying ‘aw hell nah’ to a call on the floor. This meant Doncic would be ejected. Coach Jason Kidd rushed the court to protect his star player and was sent out of the game as well.

This ejection meant that Luka was forced to leave the game while at 19 points, his lowest total for the season and one that ends Luka’s 51-game streak of scoring 20 points or more.

The Vibes Are No Longer Immaculate In Dallas

Last year, a lot of the Mavericks’ success came from players like Jalen Brunson who kept the Mavs alive when Doncic was off the court. He was also a massive locker room presence, coining the Mavs locker room as a place where ‘the vibes are immaculate’. His departure has really hurt the team and those positive vibes seem long gone.

Luka has been yelling at teammates and acting petulantly on the court. He’s doing everything humanly possible to keep the Mavericks in games but poor late-game decisions by him, coaching, and his teammates have cost the Mavs too many games. Something needs to change for them before Doncic realizes he may need to find a more functional franchise to become a winner in the NBA.
