This has been a bad day for the Memphis Grizzlies. Just hours after absorbing a tough loss to the top-seeded Nuggets, Ja Morant got suspended for two games for flashing a gun on Instagram, Brandon Clarke got ruled out for the season after suffering a torn Achilles, and now one of their top wings, Dillon Brooks, is set to serve a suspension as well.

On Saturday afternoon, the NBA released a statement to announce the suspension, which is due to Brooks accumulating his 16th technical foul of the season.

This is standard procedure from the NBA. Going into a new season, each player is given up to 15 technical fouls before being suspended and Brooks seems to have reached that magic number with a month and a half left to go in the regular season.

So, it’s not a surprising or unwarranted move from the league, but the timing of this suspension is just brutal for Memphis.

As a team barely clinging to the third seed, the Grizzlies need a win on Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers. Unfortunately, three of their rotation players are set to miss the contest completely.

All-in-all, it’s been a miserable day for Grizzlies fans and there is no sign of when things will get better.

Are The Grizzlies Still Fine In The West?

Earlier this season, a very confident Ja Morant revealed that he saw no real threat in the West this season. That take aged poorly, of course, but it would be a sign of things to come.

While the team is still second in the West, they are in jeopardy of losing ground in the standings if they keep losing games at this rate.

Even if they do stand firm in 2nd place in the standings, the Nuggets, Clippers, Suns, and others might have something to say about it.

Either way, it’s clear that the Grizzlies are vulnerable right now as their immaturity and poor decisions continue to hold them back from reaching their true potential.
