NBA Rumors: “Growing Belief” That Timberwolves Will Draft James Wiseman

2 Min Read

Even with reports circulating that Memphis freshman James Wiseman wants to avoid the Timberwolves, there is a growing belief that his name will be called by the team come draft night.

“Multiple sources have told Bleacher Report the name they keep hearing now for the Timberwolves is James Wiseman,” Wasserman wrote. “‘Some within the Golden State Warriors think Wiseman is going No. 1, whether Minnesota keeps the pick or not,’ one source plugged into the conversation said.

“It’s an intriguing development given the obvious questions about whether Wiseman and Karl-Anthony Towns can play together.”

Wiseman is a 7-1, 240-pound big man who is projected to be a top-three pick in the upcoming draft. In Memphis, he averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game on 76% shooting.

Despite the talent, there have been major questions about how he would fit on a roster with Karl-Anthony Towns — a young, star center who has been regarded as the face of the franchise.

Still, it seems Minnesota is drafting who they believe will be the best player available, even if it risks the chemistry of the roster and he could prove to be a valuable asset.

With Wiseman, D’Lo, and Towns, the team would have a pretty talented trio and, if things don’t pan out, they could always trade one or all of their stars for other players and assets.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out for the Wolves moving forward.
