The Houston Rockets suffered another disappointing finish in the 2019-20 season, losing in five games, in the second round, to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
With so much uncertainty regarding the future of the franchise, nobody knows what this Rockets team will look like next season, or if they will be in a position to compete.
But, from the words of current GM Rafael Stone, they have no plans to blow things up.
“We’re still all-in. Our goal is to win a championship. We’ll do anything we can to get us closer to that goal,” Stone said on winning the title.
The Rockets don’t plan on trading either of their stars, but Stone also suggested a very busy offseason for his team in the coming weeks.
“It depends entirely on what we think we can do with our minimum exception. We think we can bring in guys that can be very helpful there. That’s a way of getting depth. And, is there a guy we think we can get at mid-level we think is really good value? If that’s the case, we’re just going to do it, period.
It’s all about talent. If we think a guy is better than the market thinks he is, we’re going to want to go get that guy. Mid-level is the best tool we have. We’re just going to be aggressive to try to get talent. Last year, we used it for Danuel House. We didn’t use all of it in that situation. It’s largely based on the market.”
The Rockets’ infamous commitment to small-ball was interesting to watch but yielded very little success. Their lack of size and interior strength often got exploited, especially in the postseason.
No doubt, they have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to maximize their chances to win next season. It all starts with James Harden, but he alone won’t be enough to get the job done.
Either way, don’t expect Houston to roll over. They have every intention of continuing their battle for a Championship.
